To be fair, I upgraded to Windows 10 the first day it came out, and before the first cumulative update (for Win10), iDrive worked fine. After that, I've got that error message and have had to start the service manually upon reboot. This, despite the service being configured as a delayed start, and error recovery set to restart the service any time.
illcox on "iDrive Backup Engine Stopped."
I am having the same problem although it's getting worse. I started the service and then began a 42GB restore. An hour or so into the restore, it failed. I had to reboot, restart the service (even though I set it to Automatic Delayed) and begin the restore again. The other issue I have with idrive is I have 100MB download speed but I am only getting 380kB/s during this restore and any others I have ever done. I'm in the UK. I am almost ready to give up on idrive and try something else. I have 150GB backed up. God help me if I ever needed it all back.
jimmylein on "how to see which files failed to backup?"
I'm another user who has the same problem. Somewhere 3500 files of mine are not being backed up. But which ones? and why? There is no indication, so I don't know whether the problem is serious or not. This is a severe omission, and one that should be trivial to fix. Why is there no action here?

I have the same problem - fails to restart on reboot but then it seems to dun fine for days until the next reboot.
I also feel the backup speed is very slow but that COULD be perception since for some reason, it decided (or maybe I did in some dialog) that it needed to resave my entire backup and so that (necessarily) took a long time
I have posted a support request ID00720765.

I am having the same issue in WIN7. All the msc.service boxes are greyed out. Has anyone found a fix?
batcran on "iDrive Backup Engine Stopped."
Props to jrshaw!! After iDrive repeatedly failed to start after reboot of my newly upgraded Windows 10 system, I made the mods suggested by jrshaw and have had no problem since. This is not ideal, but I not prepared to waste more time trying to pin this down (restarting with & without mods, etc). It would be nice, though, to have a definitive response from the iDrive development team on this issue.
Joshuaone on "iDrive Backup Engine Stopped."
This thread is pretty disappointing. Like many others, my Idrive has stopped working since I updated to Windows 10. I sent a support ticket, and received a short response that just told me to reinstall Idrive, which I have done. I have no idea whether that has solved the problem or not, and don't have all morning to study it further.
So, I Googled to see if anyone else is having difficulties, and that brought me to this forum. Actually, that's how I realized that the problem has to do with Windows 10. I hadn't connected those dots, and the support team didn't think to ask about or explain the connection.
So, I find this forum in hopes of gaining some new insights -- and every single post from the Idrive moderator is a request for a username and/or ticket number -- rather than offering any substantive help. I guess the idea is to take the discussions off the forum, so they can keep the rest of us in the dark about what's going on with other users.
I am extremely unimpressed.

Joshuaone...
Like you, I am more than disappointed in iDrive's response to issues here on the forum.
I found that jrshaw's suggestion above has worked for me.. changing iDrive service startup to Automatic (Delayed)
You might try this to see if it works for you.

This is not only related to Windows 10. I am still on Win 7 and have been having the problem for months. I too Googled it and got here. I have been on tech support at several levels including them taking over my computer. All they do is manually reset the service and then it works for a day or so. I am going to try the fix above but thank goodness for real people who can say what's really happening (that's you all).

We have released a new version of IDrive application with few minor enhancements. We request you to follow the steps mentioned below and check for the issue:
1. Please update the application to latest version (Ver 6.4.0.7 Released on 09/23/2015)
2. Bring up the "Run" dialog box by pressing key combination (Windows key+R)
3. Type in "services.msc" and click on OK.
4. Right click on IDriveService. Choose " Properties "
5. Change the startup type to "Automatic Delayed Start"[General Tab]
eengr on "how to see which files failed to backup?"
I understand the concept of a minimally viable product, especially in SW, but not showing what failed to backup is a huge oversight. May I suggest that "soon" is changed to "by Oct 1st". The information is obviously within the system - it just needs to be reported.

After receiving notice of IDrive update, I complied and updated IDrive one day ago. The IDrive engine has not started since that "new" install. In fact, IDrive doesn't even show up in the "services.msc" list any longer. So, the suggestions for a "work-around fix" that involve "services.msc" are no longer applicable for me because Idrive is no longer in the "services.msc" list. This is DEFINITELY a bug that needs fixin'

I had this problem a few weeks ago (ticket ID00720765. ) and the change in properties I was provided with worked fine
1. Go into Service Control Manager[run=>services.msc] 2. Right click on IDriveService and choose properties.
3. In the dialog which appears, change the startup type to "Automatic Delayed Start .
Also, right click on IDriveService and choose properties, select Recovery tab and set First Failure, Second Failure, Subsequent Failure to Restart the service and then restart the machine. Check if the service starts automatically on restart of the machine.
ALl has been well until I installed the latest version 6.4.0.8 and then late yesterday I saw a message saying idrive service had crashed.
Now the idrive icon in the tray says "idrive backup engine has been stopped. Restart the backup engine to continue the operation". There is no idrive service in the services engine. looks like the fix broke something??
