This thread is pretty disappointing. Like many others, my Idrive has stopped working since I updated to Windows 10. I sent a support ticket, and received a short response that just told me to reinstall Idrive, which I have done. I have no idea whether that has solved the problem or not, and don't have all morning to study it further.

So, I Googled to see if anyone else is having difficulties, and that brought me to this forum. Actually, that's how I realized that the problem has to do with Windows 10. I hadn't connected those dots, and the support team didn't think to ask about or explain the connection.

So, I find this forum in hopes of gaining some new insights -- and every single post from the Idrive moderator is a request for a username and/or ticket number -- rather than offering any substantive help. I guess the idea is to take the discussions off the forum, so they can keep the rest of us in the dark about what's going on with other users.

I am extremely unimpressed.

Joshuaone...

Like you, I am more than disappointed in iDrive's response to issues here on the forum.

I found that jrshaw's suggestion above has worked for me.. changing iDrive service startup to Automatic (Delayed)

You might try this to see if it works for you.

This is not only related to Windows 10. I am still on Win 7 and have been having the problem for months. I too Googled it and got here. I have been on tech support at several levels including them taking over my computer. All they do is manually reset the service and then it works for a day or so. I am going to try the fix above but thank goodness for real people who can say what's really happening (that's you all).

We have released a new version of IDrive application with few minor enhancements. We request you to follow the steps mentioned below and check for the issue:

1. Please update the application to latest version (Ver 6.4.0.7 Released on 09/23/2015)
2. Bring up the "Run" dialog box by pressing key combination (Windows key+R)
3. Type in "services.msc" and click on OK.
4. Right click on IDriveService. Choose " Properties "
5. Change the startup type to "Automatic Delayed Start"[General Tab]

I understand the concept of a minimally viable product, especially in SW, but not showing what failed to backup is a huge oversight. May I suggest that "soon" is changed to "by Oct 1st". The information is obviously within the system - it just needs to be reported.

After receiving notice of IDrive update, I complied and updated IDrive one day ago. The IDrive engine has not started since that "new" install. In fact, IDrive doesn't even show up in the "services.msc" list any longer. So, the suggestions for a "work-around fix" that involve "services.msc" are no longer applicable for me because Idrive is no longer in the "services.msc" list. This is DEFINITELY a bug that needs fixin'

I had this problem a few weeks ago (ticket ID00720765. ) and the change in properties I was provided with worked fine

1. Go into Service Control Manager[run=>services.msc] 2. Right click on IDriveService and choose properties.
3. In the dialog which appears, change the startup type to "Automatic Delayed Start .

Also, right click on IDriveService and choose properties, select Recovery tab and set First Failure, Second Failure, Subsequent Failure to Restart the service and then restart the machine. Check if the service starts automatically on restart of the machine.

ALl has been well until I installed the latest version 6.4.0.8 and then late yesterday I saw a message saying idrive service had crashed.

Now the idrive icon in the tray says "idrive backup engine has been stopped. Restart the backup engine to continue the operation". There is no idrive service in the services engine. looks like the fix broke something??

I have the same issue (using Win7), started right after the last update of IDrive. IDriveService is not listed on SCM, so I can't start it.
Also, "Next Scheduled Event" refers to 3 days ago, probably the date of the SW update...

I cannot run any backup now, so my data is not protected!
Please help ASAP.

I have Windows 7 pro and The backup started having issues 4 days ago. I called and even though I have, 6.5.0.7, supposedly the latest, I was told to uninstall, wipe out all the remnants and re-install. I did all of that and nothing changed. You can change schedules, play with what to back up, etc, but it still fails (IDrive backup engine has been stopped). I tried to back up manually while watching. It says generating list but no progress or error message. I just tried to set up recover for 5 minutes between failures and will see how it works. When I look at the services in the task Manager, it shows IDrive running, but very low CPU usage or none.

I was having this problem of IDrive service not starting. I solved it by opening the properties in Services, Clicking on the Logon tab, and changing the Logon from the local system account to an administrator account on the PC. IDrive seems to start okay now.

Greetings,

I understand your frustration as I also have had my share of problems with iDrive.

One thing I did, and you alluded to, was to 'start over." Unfortunately my initial attempts to do so did nothing to resolve my problems (iDrive service not starting or stopping at random intervals).

Here are the things I tried and you may have already done some or all of them:

1. Reinstall iDrive over current installation (did nothing to correct the problem)

2. Uninstalled iDrive and then reinstalled (fixed the problem for a short period of time)

3. Used a third party uninstaller that scans for left over components. I use IObit's Uninstaller (ver 5.2). It is a free download from iobit.com. Then reinstalled iDrive (fixed the problem for a while)

4. Used IObit Uninstaller to remove iDrive (including running the "Powerful Scan"). I then cleaned the computer's registry using CCleaner (a free tool from piriform.com). Once these steps were completed, I installed the latest version of iDrive from a fresh download and I have had very few problems since.

You might want to give these steps a try before you scrap iDrive altogether.

Hope this helps.

GrandpaLarry
